About Taproot Community Farm
Our Mission
We are a non-profit farm created to provide sustainable food security through community empowerment. Our mission is to produce locally grown nutritious food with our community, for our community.
Long Term Goals
- Establish commercial composting site
- Create community garden space
- Build connections with Farm-to-School programs
- Hold community gardening workshops
- Work with Iron River city to give alternative options for community service
- Establish permaculture/food forest
- Establish aquaponics/hydroponics site
Site Development Plan
- Greenhouse/over garden bed
- For extended growing season
- Food Forest
- Fruit trees and other companion plants along walking paths
- Garden space
- Food plots where community members volunteer and in return get healthy produce
- CSA boxes to be sold to those who are unable to volunteer
- Produce to support community food programs
- Composting Site
- Material collected as waste then sold to help fund farm
